My old Invicta had always had a misaligned cyclops. To add insult to injury I banged it hard and cracked the Cyclops :oops: Here are a few pictures. My only Rolex with a cyclops is the 16710 GMT - and magnification is per Rolex specifications. But, yes, you are correct, insufficient magnification is, amongst others tell-tale signs, one of the ways to identify a fake.

this should be good news: in all Rolex watches, the cyclops is not part of the crystal--both are manufactured, finished, and then the cyclops is affixed to the crystal. so the crystal should not need to be replaced (though whether it must first be removed, i don't know) Collected my first Rolex on the 24th and this morning I think I scratched the cyclops. I didn't notice it happening but it wasn't there yesterday. I tied to buff it out with a microfibre cloth. I also used a bit of water but I think it's scratched. Last week I noticed something odd on the cyclops, and after trying to clean it found out it wont come off. As far as i can tell there is no "scratch" it looks like a skuff (like sandpaper rubbed on it) but the cyclops feels smooth to the touch, so I am not sure that it is on the surface.The small magnifying window on Rolex date watches—except the Sea-Dweller—is surprisingly capable, delivering 2.5x magnification. That means the tiny date window below should fill up the view through this so-called cyclops, delivering a clear view of the date even for older eyes.
